What is your name?

Kenny Ketner

What do you do for work and what is your slash (aka what do you do in your free time)?

I am the Information Products Lead for the State Library. I get to program a little bit of everything, administer the website, and help to maintain super useful geographic information tools like Montana Cadastral. For fun, I enjoy reading, board games, video games, making computer music, and exploring new places.

How did you land in Helena?

I came to Helena for a fresh start after a lifetime spent in West Texas. Besides being a programmer, I've been a bookstore owner, talk radio host, elected official, and comics convention organizer. My life here is much simpler! Buy me a beer and I'll tell you all about it.

What is the best piece of advice that you ever received – career-related or otherwise?

Saying yes can open new opportunities to you, but saying no can help you focus your time and energy, avoiding burnout.

When do you feel the most yourself?

When I have quiet, distraction-free time, usually early morning or late at night.

Where is the last place you explored and where do you want to explore next?

Last year I had a great trip to Red Lodge, over the Beartooth Mountains, through Silver Gate, and into NE Yellowstone Park. This summer I'm looking forward to hiking more and floating on the Missouri River.

Tell us something about yourself that we didn’t ask:

I have two dogs, Max (Akita mix) and Molly (Australian Shepherd mix) that made the trek to Montana with me. They love waking me up early for breakfast and playing with other dogs at the dog park!
