What is your name?

Leslie Foley

What do you do for work and what is your slash (aka what do you do in your free time)?

I am in a unique position where in addition to my nursing role I also manage a very busy private practice here in Helena. This means that I get to utilize my critical thinking skills and am faced with a variety of challenges daily. Private practice has allowed me to broaden my scope of knowledge in a way that would not have been possible in a large hospital setting. I try my best to enjoy all of the outdoor recreation available to us in MT including skiing, hiking/backpacking, biking, fishing, and spending time on rivers and lakes. I also enjoying the delicious micro brews offered in our sweet little town and spending time with my family and friends makes my life that much sweeter.

How did you land in Helena?

We moved from Bozeman to Texas 10 years ago after my husband, Ian, accepted a job with the USDA. We missed the mountains, so we were happy when the perfect job opened up for him in Helena and we quickly returned to MT.

What is the best piece of advice that you ever received – career-related or otherwise?

"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." (African Proverb?) A mentor once reminded me of this and I think of it often in relation to work, as well as my personal life. Whether I am hiking with my kids, or working on a project at work, it reminds me to slow down and see things from the perspective of others. Our success and quality of life should only be improved by those around us.

When do you feel the most yourself?

Under a big open sky enjoying life with those I love.

Where is the last place you explored and where do you want to explore next?

Now that our children are appropriate ages to appreciate international travel, we would like to take an annual trip to a new location each year. Last year was Mexico, this year SE Asia. I'm hoping we can add Peru to the list in 2018.

Tell us something about yourself that we didn’t ask:

Hmm...I was born and raised in Montana and hope to stay here for the remainder of my professional career.:)
